About The DHA

Founded in 1970, the Dunwoody Homeowners Association (DHA) was created to unify the voice of our community and advocate for the homeowners who have built their lives and families here.

The Association was born out of a turning point: DeKalb County’s expansion of Ashford-Dunwoody Road without consulting residents or considering its impact on newly built neighborhoods. From that moment, a new era of local advocacy began.

  • 1990s: DHA helped define Dunwoody Village as “the Heart of Dunwoody” with an overlay district that established architectural standards to preserve the character of our residential community, even as Perimeter Center grew more urbanized.
  • The successful effort to save the historic Cheek-Spruill Farmhouse from demolition turned it into a symbol of Dunwoody’s identity—a “small town in a big city”.
  • Today: Advocacy continues as DHA brings neighbors and local stakeholders together to share ideas, resolve differences, and protect our city’s future.

Planning & Zoning: DHA maintains a strong presence in zoning and development discussions, educating residents and providing input to government boards. We serve as a sounding board—whether in support of or opposition to new proposals.

Monthly board meetings create a roundtable setting where the public can learn about proposed changes, ask questions, and share perspectives—something not always possible in formal government sessions.

For more than 50 years, DHA has shaped not only the culture of Dunwoody, but also the city itself.

From the bylaws

The purpose of the Dunwoody Homeowners Association is to promote the recreation, health, safety, welfare, and enjoyment of homeowners in the community. We strive to preserve Dunwoody as a community of high-quality residential living.

We encourage and support the development of services and facilities that sustain Dunwoody’s standard of excellence, while opposing outside influences that threaten its quality of life.

We maintain close relationships with local government and remain vigilant on issues of planning, zoning, infrastructure, and public improvements—always working to protect the rights and interests of Dunwoody residents.

In addition to local governmental advocacy, and the preservation and well-being of the residential districts within the city, the DHA also facilitates world class community events, once a year, seasonally, on a full year annual basis.

In fairness, a lot of our citizens are not aware that these events are DHA events, and while we depend on our civic partners, local boards, and the local government for support, these events are largely funded and produced by the volunteers of the DHA.

DHA is responsible for these events:
