About the DHA

The Dunwoody Homeowners Association was founded in 1970 to organize the voice of the community and advocate for the homeowners who have invested their lives and families in Dunwoody's future.  The tipping point was DeKalb County's expansion of Ashford-Dunwoody road. DeKalb county authorized development without consulting local residents or considering the effect on the then-newly-built residential neighborhoods.
A new age of local advocacy was born.

In the 1990s, DHA helped define Dunwoody Village as "the Heart of Dunwoody" with an overlay district.  The district set architectural standards in place to keep residential Dunwoody distinct from the growing urbanized Perimeter Center.  The Cheek-Spruill Farmhouse, saved from a developers' wrecking ball, became the community symbol.  Dunwoody's identity as a "small town in a big city" began there.

The DHA continually  facilitates neighbor interaction, and conversations among people to generate new ideas and resolve differences.  Board meetings are the opportunity to discuss proposed changes in a roundtable environment.  The public can develop an informed opinion about proposals and engage in dialogue in a format not possible in a formal government setting.

Over 50 years, DHA has shaped the culture of the community, and then the city of Dunwoody.

From the bylaws:

The purpose of the Dunwoody Homeowners Association is to promote the recreation, health, safety, welfare, benefit and enjoyment of the homeowners within the community. The Association strives to ensure that Dunwoody is preserved principally for high quality residential use.

We encourage and support the development and improvement of services and facilities required and necessary for the support of Dunwoody; we oppose the intrusion of forces and elements that are inimical to the perpetuation of the high standard and quality of life long associated with Dunwoody.

We maintain liaison with local government bodies and agencies in order to be alert and assist in courses of action that are beneficial to Dunwoody and its residents. Within the limits of our authority, we exercise vigilance in planning and development, zoning, streets and drainage, water and sewer, utility and other capital improvement matters so that the rights and interests of the majority of the residents of Dunwoody are sustained and supported.
